An investigation continues into the LAPD officer-involved fatal shooting of an auto theft suspect in Reseda following a confrontation, but police have not released any new details.
The victim — Daniel Carver, 29 — led police on a chase in an allegedly stolen SUV on Monday, April 9. Carver died at the scene of the shooting that occurred in the 6500 block of Corbin Avenue, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. Carver’s home town was not known.
Two officers were injured in the confrontation. One was treated at a hospital for a knee injury, and the other was treated at a hospital for scrapes and bruises, said Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Patricia Sandoval.
A weapon was recovered at the scene, but it was unclear if the suspect fired at the officers, Sandoval said.
The captain said the two Topanga Station officers were in a patrol car in the area when they began chasing Carver, who was driving an SUV, after they received a “LoJack hit” that indicated the vehicle had been reported stolen.
They chased the SUV for about seven minutes, and Carver got out of the vehicle and ran off, followed by the officers on foot, Sandoval said.
The shooting occurred about two to five minutes into the foot chase, Sandoval said. She said it was unclear if both officers fired.
