Candles, photos, flowers, and messages of love have been placed around a makeshift street memorial under the 405 Freeway underpass to honor Freddy Perez, 30, a motorcyclist who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver at about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 16. Police are asking for public assistance in locating the driver of the vehicle that struck Perez. The vehicle is described as a dark-colored long bed truck that was traveling westbound on Rinaldi Street when it struck Perez, the driver of the truck continued onto the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway without stopping.
Perez, a Granada Hills resident had many friends and family in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. They have organized a fundraiser this Saturday, July 23, at 2 pm at Taps! located at 18673 Devonshire St. in Northridge to assist his family. People are being asked to wear their Lakers, Dodgers, or Mexico sports gear. Those who knew him described Perez as “a very nice man who was respectful and had a contagious smile, loved sports and his family, and had a huge heart.”
