MISSION HILLS (CNS) – Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a hit-and-run suspect who caused the death of a 50-year-old man in Mission Hills.
On Sunday at 9:25 p.m., a light-colored sedan was traveling eastbound on Devonshire Street near Woodman Avenue moments before colliding into a pedestrian who was attempting to help a “loose” dog cross the street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
LA Fire Department paramedics arrived at the location to render medical assistance, but despite their efforts, pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The LA County Office of Medical Examiner identified the North Hills resident Monday as Jesus Portillo.
“Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” the police department said in a statement.
A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect.
LA City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez issued a statement, saying, “I am deeply saddened by the recent hit-and-run incident in Mission Hills that resulted in the tragic loss of life.
