The Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) announced the opening of the Altadena Job Center Monday, Sept. 15, a new satellite site of the America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) network.
The center will provide no-cost employment, training and business services to residents and employers across Altadena and neighboring communities, with direct support for displaced workers, youth and small businesses impacted by the January Eaton Fire.
The center’s launch follows a motion introduced by LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and unanimously adopted by the Board of Supervisors in April 2025 to support disaster recovery for fire-impacted communities and ensure priority access to worker and employer resources.
Co-located at the LA County Department of Public Works’ Altadena One-Stop Permit Center at 464 W. Woodbury Rd., Suite 210, the Job Center will operate Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Services are available to the general public at no cost. Both walk-in and pre-scheduled appointments are available.
Jobseekers can access one-on-one career counseling, resume and interview preparation, job training for industry-recognized credentials, temporary paid work experience and job placement services. Individuals who lost work due to the wildfires can also get connected to the Fire Recovery and Resilience Workforce Program, which provides temporary jobs for three to five months in disaster relief and recovery with county departments and connections to other transitional work and training opportunities.
Youth ages 14-24 can enroll in Youth@Work to participate in 160 hours of personal enrichment and hands-on paid work experience with local businesses, nonprofits and government agencies to develop workplace skills and explore career paths while earning wages.
Local businesses can access support with hiring, wage and training subsidies and layoff prevention strategies. Additionally, DEO’s Office of Small Business (OSB) will also be on site, providing services including one-on-one business counseling, legal aid referrals, help with certifications, grant navigation, permitting and licensing assistance through EPIC-LA.
“I’m proud to see the Altadena Job Center open its doors and begin serving our community,” said Barger. “This resource is especially meaningful for Eaton Fire survivors who are still working to rebuild their lives and livelihoods. I encourage those impacted to take full advantage of the free job training, employment and business services available here. They are designed to help individuals and small businesses get back on their feet and move forward with confidence.”
“The Altadena Job Center reflects a deep commitment to meeting our community needs at the right level and at the right location,” said Kelly LoBianco, DEO director. “We’re making sure people have all the necessary access to the county personnel and tools they need, whether they’re searching for a new job, rebuilding after the fire or looking to grow their business.”
