The Victory Wellness Center, a program at the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center which offers support to clients in their process towards healing, change and transformation, assembled these tips to help cope with stress and anxiety during the holidays.
● Be realistic about what you can do.
● Pace yourself so that you don’t take on more than you can handle.
● Set holiday goals that are achievable.
● Remember to live in the now and make the most of every moment.
● Make time for free (and stress-free) activities such as window shopping or viewing holiday decorations.
● Try something different this time round to keep things fresh.
● Spend time with people who will support and nourish you.
● Seek help if needed.
If, despite your best efforts, stress and anxiety during the holidays gets the better of you, be sure to let your mental health care team know. And if you, or anyone you know, are feeling suicidal, you can get help immediately.
