As the Toluca Lake Holiday Parade prepares for its 40th year in operation, the event’s organizers – led for the third year by community leader and real estate agent Craig Strong – are issuing a call for community members to volunteer their time to bring the parade to life this Christmas Eve.
Since the early 80s, the parade’s illuminated caroling truck and festive procession have delighted families across North Hollywood, Toluca Lake and Burbank. For many residents, it is the heart of their holiday tradition – one sustained entirely by neighbors who step in to sing, dance, walk, guide and support the production.
“Giving your time is one of the most meaningful gifts you can offer,” said Strong. “This parade is built by volunteers. If this tradition matters to you, this is the year to step in.”
Volunteers Needed – Two Shifts Available
● Age: Volunteers of all ages are welcome; no experience required.
● Roles: carolers, dancers, elves/characters, candy-cane helpers, support walkers and route/safety monitors.
● Shifts – Shift 1: 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. | Shift 2: 7:30 – 10:30 p.m.
The parade is continuing its partnership with Penny Lane Centers, a nonprofit supporting foster youth, families and community mental health programs. Attendees are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped gifts for youth served by Penny Lane.
Suggested items include gift cards, warm clothing, hygiene essentials, toys or small meaningful gifts. Volunteer elves will collect donations along the route.
“Bringing joy to young people through Penny Lane Centers gives this night purpose beyond celebration,” Strong said. “It’s a simple, powerful way to support the youth in our community.”
With a growing route and increased safety requirements, more volunteers are needed than ever.
“Your time is the gift that keeps this tradition alive,” Strong added.
