Artist, entrepreneur and advocate Chiquis was honored during Women’s History Month by Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath for her commitment to uplifting women and communities across the county.
Born Janney Marín Rivera, eldest daughter of famed Latina singer Jenni Rivera, Chiquis is a three-time Latin Grammy Award winner, recipient of two Lo Nuestro Awards and was nominated for a Grammy twice.
Chiquis is also a well-known TV personality, making her debut in 2010 with the reality show “Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C.” She also appeared in the spin-offs “I Love Jenni” and “The Riveras,” the latter of which focused on her and her siblings after their mother’s death.
Through her work, Chiquis has used her platform to share her story with authenticity and resilience, helping to break barriers in the entertainment industry while creating space for conversations around identity, healing and empowerment. Her leadership continues to inspire women to embrace their voices and lead with confidence.
“This Women’s History Month, I am proud to honor Chiquis. As a proud Latina from our Third District, she has consistently shown up for our community – supporting immigrant families, helping those in need, and standing with wildfire-impacted communities,” said Horvath. “Through her voice and platform, she uplifts women, inspires confidence, and reminds us all what leadership in action looks like. May her light continue to shine on generations to come.”
“Thank you Lindsey for recognizing me, it’s such an honor to be recognized in this way,” said Chiquis. “I will continue to help my community, to help with women, to empower them in anything that I do. I wanted to tell you if anyone had said no and told me that you can, I am here to tell you that it is absolutely possible.”
A special reception honoring Chiquis on Tuesday, March 24, was held before the Board of Supervisors meeting and was attended by women leaders across the Third District and LA County. Among them was Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, City of San Fernando Councilmember Mary Solorio, LA County Assessor Jeff Prang, Burbank Councilmember Nikki Perez and Glendale Councilmember Elen Asatryan.
