LA Made: A Shady Divide
January 27, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Thursday, January 27
Los Angeles Public Library
4 p.m.
In sunny Los Angeles, a lack of tree cover in low-income areas has left many residents especially vulnerable to rising heat. It’s a legacy of the city’s design as well as its history of racist policies. Journalist Alejandra Borunda documented this, “Shady Divide,” in a cover story for National Geographic and will talk about the history that led to shade inequity across the city, the heat-related dangers arising from a lack of tree canopies in poorer areas, and some of the ways people are trying to fix the problem. The event will be streaming live on the LAPL YouTube and Facebook page.
