Dear Editor,

Greetings Fellow Veterans and Friends of Veterans:

The New Year got off to a very positive start on Saturday, January 3, when Rafer Johnson spoke before the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Coaliton (LANCC) representing 96 Councils throughout Los Angeles, and set forth a bold challenge to end Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles

The year 2015 is going to be the “Year of the Veteran” as we move forward with bold positive plans for the future while putting to rest a disgraceful past that created a multitude of problems through the VA’s illegal use of Veterans land that forced tens of thousands of war-injured and impoverished Veterans to be homeless on the dangerous streets of LA.

Albert Einstein wisely noted that you cannot solve your problems with the same minds that created them.

Correspondingly, it was positive news this past year when Eric Shinseki resigned as Secretary of the VA, Donna Beiter and Ralph Tillman retired from the Los Angeles VA, Zev Yaroslavsky was termed out as LA County Supervisor, Henry Waxman retired from Congress and Veterans Park Conservancy canceled their own unlawful “sharing agreement” before a Federal Court order put a halt to their illegal amphitheater.

While the VA has shamefully appealed the Federal Judgment against the VA, let’s all throw our full support behind the ACLU’s powerful team of attorneys and legal scholars for a decisive victory, and at the same time join forces with Rafer Johnson and LANCC’s leadership coupled with new political and VA leadership to immediately begin providing housing and care for our disabled and homeless Veterans on the sacred grounds of the Los Angeles VA.

In addition, please join us every Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 PM as we continue to keep a public vigil protesting the abuse of our disabled and homeless Veterans and the misuse of their sacred land that was exclusively deeded as a National Veterans Home.

God Bless America and the Veterans Revolution!

Robert Rosebrock
