A fatal motorcycle crash in Reseda on Monday, Jan. 11, that police originally thought might have been caused by a felony hit-and-run now appears to be a solo accident, LAPD investigators said.
Det. Bill Bustos of the Valley Traffic Division said the victim — identified as Ziyad Riyad O Afandi, 26, of Northridge by coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter — died from injuries sustained in the accident that occurred on Reseda Boulevard, just north of Ingomar Street.
“When [police investigators] were first called out, we believed it was a hit-and-run accident and didn’t know the vehicle — if it was a white or dark-colored van,” Bustos said Wednesday, Jan. 13.
“After further investigation on Tuesday, we located more evidence that it was not hit-run, but that the motorcyclist lost control. There was no contact with any other vehicle prior to impact.”
Witnesses originally gave conflicting descriptions of the hit-and-run vehicle, which could be a truck or a SUV. Police are now looking for a driver of a white sedan that traveling north on Reseda Boulevard at Ingomar Street in Reseda at the time of the accident.
“We know that person tried to help. And we believe they were in best position to see what occurred,” Bustos said.
