Public Health: “Winning Starts with Staying Safe”
The LA County Department of Public Health is promoting its “Winning Starts with Staying Safe” campaign to help residents and visitors stay healthy during large-scale World Cup events.
The campaign highlights practical steps to reduce health risks in crowded and high-heat environments, including:
■ Heat illness prevention: Stay hydrated, take breaks in shaded or cooled areas and watch for symptoms such as dizziness, nausea or confusion.
■ Alcohol and substance safety: Avoid excessive alcohol use and do not mix alcohol with drugs or other substances, which can increase the risk of injury and medical emergencies.
■ Crowd health: Practice good hygiene, wash hands frequently and stay home if feeling ill to help prevent the spread of illness.
■ Personal awareness: Plan ahead, identify meeting points and look out for others who may need assistance.

Public safety officials encourage attendees to:
■ Follow instructions from law enforcement and event staff
■ Be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity
■ Allow extra travel time due to increased traffic and crowds
■ Keep personal belongings secure in crowded areas
■ Monitor official alert systems for evacuation and emergency updates
In the event of an emergency, residents should follow instructions from local authorities and rely on official notification systems.
