John H. Gasca

John H. Gasca, age 83, passed away on February 4, 2017 at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. 

John was born on May 29, 1933, in San Fernando, California to Luz and Tomas Gasca.

He grew up in the City of San Fernando and attended San Fernando Elementary and High School. In 1953, he married Nellie Tostado and they had 5 children together- Thomas, Anthony, Mario, Anna, and David.

John served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War and received medals for National Defense Service, Good Conduct, UN Service, and Korean Service.

John was an active community member and business owner in the City of San Fernando. He owned and operated the Town Barber Shop located on Truman Street from 1955-2011, and served many long time customers that included numerous local residents, community professionals, and clergy.

John, also a devout Catholic man, dutifully volunteered his time to the Church. For more than 40 years, he served as Head Usher for Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church, and provided support to the Sunday morning Mass.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, music, and dancing. 

John is survived by his wife, Nellie Gasca, along with their 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and large extended family through which John is very much loved and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services for John Gasca will take place on Thursday, February 9th, 2017 at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church at 1109 Coronel St, San Fernando, CA 91340. 

The Rosary Prayer will begin at 9:30 a.m., with Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. 

Burial services will proceed at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
