Campbell Hall took some lumps in the 2019 fall season, recording its first losing season (4-6) in six years. Coach Dennis Keyes has gotten some things straightened out; the Vikings are 7-0 going into this week’s contest.
They are facing another unbeaten team. Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep is 6-0, making this Gold Coast League opener for both teams on Friday, Oct. 8, a highly anticipated one.
The Kares travel on the ground efficiently, averaging 239.3 rushing yards per game. Senior running back Jonathan Guerrero has accumulated 688 yards and 11 touchdowns, but has plenty of support from fellow seniors Gio Ortega (226 yards, three touchdowns) and Calvin Johnson (189 yards, two touchdowns).
The Vikings have an excellent aerial attack, led by junior quarterback Isaiah Sepand who’s thrown for 1,340 yards and 23 touchdowns. A favorite receiver has been Kian Salehi, who has amassed 565 yards and eight touchdowns on 25 receptions.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rio Hondo Prep High School.
