In celebration of Valentine’s Day six couples renewed their wedding vows and four couples were married at Hollywood United Methodist Church in a special celebration presented by the Los Angeles Queer Interfaith Clergy Council (LAQUICC).
“In a time when the LGBTQIA+ community is feeling uncertain about our rights in this nation, it is important to be reminded that we will not go back into the shadows and that our love deserves to be celebrated,” said Rev. Hannah Adair Bonner, senior pastor of Hollywood United Methodist, which hosted the event.
LAQUICC and the church organized the midday Mass Renewal of Vows Ceremony both in recognition of the holiday and in response to “attacks on the LGBTQIA+ communities.”
“We will not be silenced, intimidated, erased or go back into the closets,” read a statement from Hollywood United Methodist. “There are people of faith who believe in the dignity and agency of all God’s Children. This Valentine’s Day, love is our resistance.”
