Dear Editor:
As you may be aware, the City of San Fernando is proposing yet another water rate increase.
Residents and business owners can fight against this increase by submitting a protest form before the October 6 deadline (protest forms can be found at San Fernando City Hall) in order for the rate increase to be stopped 51% of the residents need to submit a protest form.
Where does our water come from? As stated in the Annual Quality Water Report, over the last 10 years, nearly 100% has come from ground well water. Only on one instance water was used from the MWD (Metropolitan Water District) when one of the wells was down for maintenance.
As a business owner I know a raise is necessary to maintain infrastructure. But not the increase the city is proposing.
It is very misleading to the residents when the city states the rates have not gone up since the year 2019 when they have been going up almost every year since.
You may have noticed your water rates going up every year with the same amount of usage during this time when the cost of living and expenses have gone up all around us.
City council members need to do the right thing.
Come to a more reasonable/manageable increase. They are the ones who are voted in by the people of this great city.
