To raise awareness and mobilize support for unhoused individuals throughout Los Angeles, Hope the Mission President Rowan Vansleve launched a new campaign on Saturday, Dec. 13, to run 50 marathons over the course of 90 days.
The campaign was kicked off at Hansen Dam, as Vansleve was joined by running clubs, community supporters and partners for a public morning run. Between Dec. 13 and March 8, 2026, Ransleve will run a total of 1,310 miles in the hope of raising $250,000 for the nonprofit.
His route at Hansen Dam is a 6.55-mile loop that he will repeat four times for each marathon. These runs are scheduled to take place every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Participants of any skill level are welcome to join in at their own pace. They can simply walk to show their support, or go for the full 26.2 miles.
This 90-day endurance challenge is a community campaign designed to mobilize supporters through daily challenges, fundraising and volunteer opportunities.
Hope the Mission executives are no stranger to these types of campaigns. Earlier this year, Vansleve and Ken Craft, the nonprofit’s CEO, walked 1,300 miles from Seattle, Washington, to North Hills in an effort to raise $200,000. In 2024, the pair trekked 3,500 miles from their San Fernando Valley-based headquarters to Washington, D.C., on bicycles to raise awareness of the plight of homeless individuals – a trip that took nearly two months.
