Marie Martha (Aaserud) Brauer, 86, of Reseda, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on April 18,2026, after a 2-year fight with cancer. Marie grew up on a farm near Portland, North Dakota, as the eighth of nine children born to Otto and Martha (Lima) Aaserud. She graduated from Mayville High School and then attended Mayville College. In 1965, she graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with minors in Math and English.
Marie moved to California in August of 1965 and taught in various schools in Glendora, Azusa, and Ontario, CA. In October 1976, she married Richard (Dick) Brauer and moved to Reseda in 1978, where she lived for the rest of her life. She taught fifth grade at Shepherd of the Valley in West Hills, CA, for 28 years, retiring in 2005 after 44 years of teaching. Richard passed away suddenly in December of the same year.
Marie enjoyed traveling, going to Alaska, Iceland, Norway, Croatia, Slovenia, and on a river boat cruise in Europe. Marie’s faith was a very important part of her life and she was active in her church wherever she lived.
She is survived by her brother Clarence and his wife Karen, sisters-in-law Marlene Aaserud and Marilyn Brauer, brother-in-law John Aasen, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, siblings Edna and Henry Erickson, Martin and Joyce Aaserud, Agnes and Orville Kalvik, Gladys Aasen, Ozzie and Martha Aaserud, Helen Aaserud, Erling Aaserud, and Bill Brauer, and several nephews.
Her memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on June 13 in West Hills, CA, and will be live-streamed. Family and friends who wish to attend or receive live-stream information may contact Theresa at 925.318.5111.

Marie was a source of love and support for all who knew her. She loved children and hoped her influence on them went beyond what she could ever see or measure.
