Congresswoman Luz Rivas presented the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) with $660,000 in federal funding for vital infrastructure upgrades at bus shelters and bus stops across the San Fernando Valley.
Improvements to these structures will help boost public transportation usage, improve rider safety and increase accessibility to economic opportunities, said Rivas during last week’s check presentation event near the corner of San Fernando Road and Van Nuys Boulevard in Pacoima.
“Thousands of riders across the valley rely on Metro buses to go to school, commute to work, run errands and go to the doctor,” said Rivas, who represents the Northeast San Fernando Valley, adding that she “will continue fighting for key transportation infrastructure upgrades that will connect our communities and improve opportunities for working families.”
Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of Metro, said the funding will help support needed improvements that will benefit “the more than 26,000 riders who take Metro buses each day in this corridor.”
“This $660,000 grant, combined with others, will help us work with the City of Los Angeles to improve dozens of bus stops with shade, better seating, better rider information and a better overall experience,” said Wiggins. “Federal funding helps local dollars go further.”
The Metro funding is part of the nearly $15 million in federal funds Rivas has secured for her district, the 29th Congressional District, during the current 2026 fiscal year.
