Richard (“Richie”) Earle Powell passed away in Austin, Texas two years ago October 7, 2024, three weeks before his 74th birthday. Born in Van Nuys, California and graduated from Birmingham High School and what is now California State University Northridge with a Bachelors Degree in Art (1973), Richie was an accomplished fine and graphic artist, a cofounder of Starwind Design Group in Los Angeles and principal of Prepstar Corporation providing dental diamonds to customers throughout the United States.
A memorial Celebration of Life was held in January 2025 with family, friends and neighbors in Lakeway, Texas, his home since 1991. He was and is remembered as a conscientious, caring and generous father, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor, and as an innovative artist, graphic designer and business owner.
He is survived by daughter Kimberley (Powell) Purtell (husband Nick and two grandchildren, Ava and Thomas), brother Harry “Jay” Powell (wife Rosalind, nephews Jesse and Micah and niece Avery and their families), dear friend Kathryn Duerr. We and other dear friends all have fond memories sharing time, jokes, discussions and travels with him.
Richie was over 20 years sober when he passed away. He lived faithfully by the Recovery creed “to thine own self be true”. An optimist and theorist on cosmology, fascinated by the mysteries of our universe, he believed that “nothing (i.e., by double entendre-”zero”) is impossible”.
He now sails the stars in another dimension of travel and consciousness powered by love.
