Letter to the Editor,
“Finding Support When Encountering LGBTQ+ Hate” is a critical national issue that must be highlighted, unabashedly condemned, and rooted out of American culture.
There is still much to do to remove the stigma, intolerance, hate, and violence still lurking in the fabric of our society. As a nation, we have failed to scratch the surface of what is required to make a positive, life-changing difference in the lives of members of the LGBTQ+ community.
I’m convinced there is nothing new under the sun. When I examine the unconscionable social situation of LGBTQ+ individuals, I see a historical pattern of “resistance to Diversity” only slightly different from that experienced by African Americans. The same can be said of Jewish Americans who experienced 60% of all religious-based hate crimes in 2023, according to FBI Director Christopher Wray, who said that percentage is approaching “historic levels.”
