SHERMAN OAKS (CNS) – A woman remains hospitalized in very critical condition after she survived a car crash that claimed the life of the driver in Sherman Oaks, according to authorities.

The driver, a man in his 20s slammed the car into a tree outside 12935 Chandler Blvd., near Coldwater Canyon Avenue, just before 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department and a desk officer at the Valley Traffic Division of the Los Angeles police.

The driver died at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.

His female passenger was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said the desk officer at LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division. The woman, the officer added, was fighting for her life.

Excessive speed may have caused the collision, the desk officer said, adding there was no indication the driver was impaired or driving under the influence.
