A battle of unbeaten teams wraps up most of the nonleague play when Cleveland High entertains Los Angeles High on Friday, Oct. 2.
The Romans (4-0), who won the City Division III championship last year, have not missed a beat moving up to Division II and expect to contend for the championship. In fact they won 16 of their past 18 games since Eric Scott took over as head coach in 2014. Los Angeles will enter Coliseum League play after this.
Like Los Angeles, the Cavaliers (4-0) plan to contend for the Division II title. But even if Cleveland wins on Friday, the Cavs need to have a better showing in the West Valley League this year to secure a good seed. In 2014, Cleveland was 0-5 in league play.
The Romans are led by excellent junior quarterback Kaymen Cureton, who’s completed 28 of 41 pass attempts for 679 yards and seven touchdowns. Cleveland’s quarterback Cristyan Macias, a senior, has similar numbers — 38 completions of 77 pass attempts for 731 yards and seven touchdowns.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cleveland High.
