ARLETA (CNS) — A man was killed Wednesday, April 20, when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Arleta, and he was then struck by a big rig, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident, which temporarily shut down freeway lanes, occurred on the southbound 5 Freeway at Osborne Street at about 12:35 a.m., said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.

“The motorcyclist and the pickup truck collided,” Villalobos said. “Then after that crash, a big rig truck hit the motorcyclist.”

The rider died at the scene, Villalobos said. His name was withheld pending family notification. No other injuries were reported, he said.

The CHP shut down all southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway at Osborne Street for the death investigation and accident cleanup, Villalobos said.

A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 12:54 a.m. Southbound traffic was diverted onto the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway. The freeway was cleared and the SigAlert cancelled at 4:42 a.m, according to the CHP.
