NORTHRIDGE (CNS) – A special education assistant was arrested on suspicion of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a former student, authorities said.

Officials at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Station arrested Joaquin Diaz Orgaz, also known as Joaquin Diaz, 44, for inappropriate activity that may have happened while he worked as a private tutor outside of his employment with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

He was moved from the Valley Jail in Van Nuys to the sheriff’s Inmate Reception Center Saturday, with bail set at $3 million, according to the sheriff’s online Inmate Information Center. A June 28 appearance was set in the North Valley Superior Court in San Fernando.

Detectives were encouraging parents of students who have had contact with Orgaz to speak with their children to make sure the contact was appropriate. Anyone with information on the case was asked to contact Devonshire sexual assault detectives at (818) 832-0609.
