NORTHRIDGE (CNS) — Cal State Northridge police say that they have followed a number of leads, but are still seeking a man who tried to kidnap a student near the campus.
The attempted kidnapping occurred about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday on Dearborn Street. The victim said she thought she saw the suspect a day earlier in the university’s Oviatt Library, said CSUN police Chief Anne Glavin.
“Thus far, we’ve had several reported sightings — most of these occurred last night — of (an) individual that fit the description of the person who grabbed this student,” Glavin said at a news conference this morning. “But so far … none of these has led to any arrest situation.”
Glavin said police were investigating several recent robberies or attempted robberies on or near the campus, but she did not connect them to the abduction attempt.
A sketch of the attempted kidnapping suspect was issued by police in an emergency notification to students, staff and others. He’s described as white, between 25-30 years old, 6 feet 5 inches tall, with short black hair, a 5 o’clock shadow beard and a tattoo on his right arm, possibly of a name. He was wearing dark blue jeans, and a black shirt with an unknown red logo.
Anyone who spots the suspect should immediately contact CSUN Police dispatch at (818) 677-2111.
