Be prepared for more political fliers and mailers — and another election.

The race for the Los Angeles City Council District 7 seat — which represents Pacoima, Sylmar, Mission Hills and parts of Sun Valley — will be decided by a runoff election on May 16 between Monica Rodriguez, a former LA Board of Public Works member, and Karo Torossian, who works for current LA Councilmember Paul Krekorian.

Rodriguez received 27.70 percent of the vote (3,966), followed by Torossian with 16.35 percent of the vote (2,341) to separate themselves from the other 18 candidates seeking to replace Felipe Fuentes, who vacated the office last year to become a lobbyist in Sacramento.

One candidate would have needed more than 50 percent of the popular vote to win the seat outright.

Rodriguez received the endorsement of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti — who easily won re-election with more than 80 percent of vote – as well as unions, the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley and other local political organization.
