Hundreds Gather at El Cariso Park for Free Workout

Hundreds people of all ages and sizes covered parts of El Cariso Park in Sylmar Wednesday, April 14, with an obvious goal in mind — to get their bodies moving.

A large-scale community fitness workout, co-sponsored by 3 WINS Fitness and the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and featuring enthusiastic Los Angeles college kinesiology students, had residents dancing, running, throwing punches, doing lunges, lifting kettle balls and enjoying all the sweat and aching muscles that were a result of their efforts.

Health officials are concerned that 78 percent of American adults do not meet the US government’s national physical activity recommendations. Physical inactivity-related ailments like heart disease and diabetes affect billions of people worldwide.

In addition to the fitness workouts, a health fair was presented, demonstrating ways to building better health with balanced meals, proper exercise and reducing stress. Biomedical screenings were also provided.
