SUNLAND (CNS) — A homeless woman has died from injuries she sustained in an assault last summer in Sunland at the hands of an unknown assailant, and detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying her attacker.

Officers were sent about 11:50 p.m. last July 1 to the 10500 block of Floralita Avenue, north of Sunland Boulevard and about two blocks east of the Sunland Recreation Center, to investigate a report of a man assaulting a woman.

They found the victim, 58-year-old Lynn Wright Matthews, on the ground, unresponsive and bleeding from the head, according to Los Angeles Police Department homicide Detective Steve Castro.

Firefighters took her to a hospital, and she remained hospitalized, with no improvement in her condition, until her death on May 18, Castro said.

No description was available of the male suspect, who was last seen getting into a large, dark-colored pickup truck, according to Castro.

He said Matthews was likely known to the homeless community in the area, and asked anyone with information that could help identify her attacker to call him at (818) 374-1925.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
