The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will hold two community open houses on March 26 and 27 to update the public on planned safety and speed improvements for Metro Orange Line BRT Improvements Project. Community members are encouraged to attend and provide their input.
The project seeks to improve bus speeds and safety and prepare the San Fernando Valley bus rapid transit line for future conversion to light rail. Metro will install up to 35 railroad-style crossing gates at intersections along the Orange Line. Metro will also build two bridges for the busway, bike path, and associated stations at Van Nuys and Sepulveda Boulevards.
Metro will present new information to the public at these meetings, including updates on its pilot gate, grade separations, and traffic analysis data from gating intersections.
Open houses will be available for two and a half hours each day. Short presentations will be given at 8 a.m. in Canoga Park and 5 p.m. in North Hollywood, and at additional times as needed. Information will be the same at both meetings:
Tuesday, March 26, 7:30 – 10 a.m., Rose Goldwater Community Center, Westfield Topanga, 21710 Vanowen Street in Canoga Park. The meeting will take place on the northeast corner of Westfield Topanga at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Owensmouth Avenue.
Wednesday, March 27, 4:30 – 7 p.m., North Hollywood Senior Center, 5301 Tujunga Avenue in North Hollywood. The senior center is served by the Orange Line and Metro Bus 237. Parking is available at the North Hollywood Recreation Center and at the Metro Orange Line station at Tujunga and Chandler.
Measure M, L.A. County’s voter-approved sales tax, and SB-1, the state’s gas tax and vehicle fee transportation funding program, provides a total of $361 million in funding for this project.
The Orange Line is planned to be converted to light rail by 2057 unless it can be delivered sooner via a Metro public-private partnership.
