The Saddleridge Fire not only caused significant damage to property and acreage in the Valley, it also disrupted the 2019 schedule last week for several area teams, either causing them to hastily reschedule their contests or cancel them all together.
This week’s slate of games now take on some added importance for teams that now may not be able to play a full 10-game schedule, making each remaining game even more precious.
That is certainly true for Cleveland High and Granada Hills Charter High, who face off on Friday, Oct. 11. Each team had games against Birmingham High and El Camino Real Charter High respectively that were canceled and will not be made up. And both teams are not only battling for positioning in the West Valley League, but the City Section Division I playoffs as well. The winner of this game can look for a more favorable seed, and perhaps a first round home game, in the eventual 16-team bracket.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at Granada Hills Charter High School.
