Immigrant advocates and formally detained community rallied on the steps of the US Court of Appeals in Pasadena on June 7 as a panel of judges listened to appeals from the Biden Administration and the private prison corporation the GEO Group to overturn a lower court’s decision upholding state law AB 32. The law bans private prisons and private detention centers in the state. Advocates consider the appeal “a betrayal” of the campaign promises Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris ran on.
