San Fernando Valley Students, Teachers and Schools Receive “Excellence in Education” Awards

Schools, educators and students in the San Fernando Valley who have received national education recognition this year were awarded at the 22nd Annual Steve Allen “Excellence in Education” Awards.

The award ceremony was held on May 25 at Pierce College at The Valley Economic Alliance Board of Directors meeting. The award is named after Steven Allen, a Valley resident and entertainer, and is given to students K-12, adult education centers, higher learning institutions and educators.

Recipients of the 2023 Steve Allen “Excellence in Education” Awards are:

— the El Camino Real Charter High School decathlon team for winning the 2023 National Decathlon Championship;

— the Bishop Alemany High School RoboWarriors Robotics Team for getting second place in the FIRST Robotics Competition;

— Arno Babahekian, math teacher and robotics mentor at High Tech Los Angeles Charter School, who received the Engineering Inspiration Award at FIRST Robotics Competition;

— Colfax Charter Elementary School for being awarded the National Blue Ribbon School in September 2022; and,

— Kester Avenue Elementary School for also being awarded the National Blue Ribbon School in September 2022.
