San Fernando police arrested Jimmy Antepara, 62, of San Fernando on Tuesday, June 4, for attempting to kidnap and rape a 14-year-old female juvenile as she sat at a bus stop in the 1000 block of Truman Street.
The victim told San Fernando Police Department (SFPD) officers that on Monday, June 3, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Antepara drove up in a van and stopped near the bus stop where she was sitting and offered her money to engage in sexual acts with him. When she refused, the suspect exited his vehicle and attempted to force her into the van.
The female victim was able to get away from Antepara and later notified the SFPD of the incident. The next day, SFPD officers spotted the van in the 1000 block of Truman Street. Officers detained the van and contacted the driver of the van, who was Antepara.
Based on the information and evidence obtained during the investigation, officers determined that Antepara was the suspect in the incident. Investigators reviewed data from the department’s recently integrated Flock Camera System and placed the van in the general area near the time the crime was said to have occurred.
Following the investigation, Antepara was arrested by officers and the investigation was presented to the Los Angeles district attorney. The district attorney has charged Antepara with attempted kidnapping with intent to rape, battery with intent to rape, providing false information to a peace officer, failing to register as a sex offender and possession of a forged ID. Antepara’s bail has been set at $1.275 million.
SFPD are currently gathering information as to whether the same suspect may have attempted similar assaults in San Fernando.
