As devastating wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles County, One Fair Wage has launched the LA Service Workers’ Relief Fund to provide immediate financial assistance to restaurant workers and other low-wage workers impacted by the crisis.

One Fair Wage previously raised $24 million and assisted 50,000 workers during the COVID-19 pandemic with its Emergency Coronavirus Service Workers’ Support Fund.

LA County is home to nearly 1 million restaurant workers – many of whom are among the lowest-paid employees in the region. With fires destroying homes, businesses and communities, countless service workers are now facing job losses, reduced income and mounting uncertainty.

As the largest workforce of immigrants, these workers are now grappling with the dual crises of wildfire devastation and heightened threats from the Trump Administration, which continues to target immigrant communities with harmful policies. The fund will also provide support to incarcerated firefighters who are risking their lives battling these blazes for as little as $2 per shift.

“Our service workers and incarcerated firefighters are on the frontlines – whether in our communities or on the fire lines,” said Saru Jayaraman, president of One Fair Wage. “These workers already face economic struggles, and the wildfires have pushed many to the brink. This fund is about standing with them in their greatest time of need.”

The LA Service Workers’ Relief Fund will provide direct cash assistance to eligible workers who have experienced income loss or other economic challenges due to the fires.

Restaurant workers, other tipped service workers and incarcerated firefighters impacted by the wildfires in LA County can apply by visiting www.ofwemergencyfund.org to complete the online application form. After submission, an organizer will reach out to applicants via text or phone call to complete a confirmation interview.

Support includes financial assistance for urgent needs like rent, groceries and basic living expenses; legal services; and access to job relief resources through One Fair Wage’s network of partners and advocates.

How to Help

One Fair Wage invites individuals, businesses, and organizations to support the fund by donating. All contributions are 501(c)3 tax-deductible.

Donate Now: Contributions will directly assist service workers and incarcerated firefighters in need. Donations can be made at One Fair Wage’s donation page.

Spread the Word: Share the initiative with other networks to ensure more workers in need can access the support they deserve.

Volunteer: Join One Fair Wage’s network of organizers to help coordinate relief efforts.

Our Turn to Serve Them

The LA Service Workers’ Relief Fund reflects One Fair Wage’s ongoing commitment to fighting for the dignity and rights of all workers. As wildfires devastate lives and livelihoods, this program is a lifeline for those who have lost so much.

“In times of crisis, we lean on each other,” said Jayaraman. “This fund ensures that those who dedicate their lives to serving others won’t be forgotten. Together, we can rebuild stronger and fairer.”
