Authorities are encouraging any other possible victims of the soccer coach who was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Oscar Omar Hernandez to contact law enforcement.
Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino was charged with murder with special circumstances on April 7, more than a week after the 13-year-old boy from Sun Valley went missing. Oscar’s body was discovered April 2, off the side of a road near Leo Carrillo State Beach in Ventura County.
The special circumstance charge against Garcia Aquino alleges the murder happened during the commission or attempted commission of lewd acts with a child. He was also charged with two felony sexual assaults involving two other teens. Those alleged incidents were reported in 2022 and 2024, but Garcia Aquino was not charged with those two crimes until April 2 and April 8.
Garcia Aquino’s arraignment is scheduled for April 30 in downtown Los Angeles. He currently remains in custody without bail.
LA County Sheriff Robert G. Luna said any victims should come forward, regardless of their immigration status, emphasizing, “We’re not going to ask about that. … we will assist you.”
