Cambios en la Elegibilidad de CalFresh Afectarán a Ciertos No Ciudadanos

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Cambios en la elegibilidad de CalFresh que afectan a ciertos no ciudadanos entrarán en vigor mañana, lo que podría impactar a miles de beneficiarios, informaron hoy funcionarios del condado de Los Ángeles.

El Departamento de Servicios Sociales Públicos dijo que los cambios derivan de actualizaciones de políticas federales descritas en H.R. 1 y harán que algunos no ciudadanos sean inelegibles para los beneficios de asistencia alimentaria.  

Entre los afectados se encuentran ciertos asilados, refugiados, personas con libertad condicional de entrada, individuos con deportación o remoción suspendida, ingresantes con estatus condicional y víctimas de trata, según el departamento.

“Los solicitantes que se encuentren en estas categorías pueden seguir teniendo derecho a CalFresh si su situación migratoria cambia a la de residente permanente legal (LPR) y cumplen todos los demás requisitos de elegibilidad del programa”, según un comunicado del departamento. “Los no ciudadanos que actualmente reciben beneficios de CalFresh seguirán recibiendo la ayuda hasta su periodo de renovación, siempre que cumplan con todos los demás criterios de elegibilidad en ese momento.”

Las autoridades del condado alentaron a los beneficiarios a actualizar su información de contacto, vigilar las fechas de renovación y revisar su correo para avisos sobre sus beneficios.

Se esperan cambios adicionales vinculados a la ley federal que entrarán en vigor el 1 de junio, incluyendo requisitos laborales ampliados para ciertos adultos sin dependientes y exenciones reducidas para algunos grupos.
