For the Fifth Annual Valley Day of Service on April 19, more than 700 volunteers representing over 40 community groups gathered at Hope the Mission headquarters in North Hills for “Meatball Madness,” where they gathered to prepare nearly 200,000 meatballs to those experiencing homelessness. Each meatball was either served directly to the 3,000 current residents of Hope the Mission and Los Angeles Mission, or frozen for future meals. The volunteers were joined by Mayor Karen Bass, Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel and LA Unified School District Board Member Kelly Gonez. Other acts of service that day included cleaning up the Sepulveda Basin and beautifying and planting roses at Sutter Middle School. (Photo by Nathan Perez/Hope the Mission)
