Nicole Chase, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of the San Fernando Valley, is in Chicago after receiving a special invitation to visit the Obama Presidential Center.
Chase walked through a full-size replica of Obama’s presidential office and sat behind the former president’s desk. Chase, like her father – the late Leroy Chase, who started the Pacoima-based Boys and Girls Club – has a deep commitment to equal opportunity in disadvantaged communities and civil rights. Chase is aligned with many of the social programs that were introduced during the Obama presidency.
The Obama Presidential Center is already considered a major historic landmark, celebrating the election and accomplishments of our nation’s first Black president, First Lady Michelle Obama and their family.
Receiving an invitation to the Kellogg Foundation’s Every Child Thrives Festival, along with the extraordinary opportunity to visit the Obama Presidential Center, was both a profound honor and an unforgettable experience. Walking through a space that celebrates history while inspiring the future reminded me that true leadership is measured not only by the offices we hold, but by the lives we uplift and the hope we create for generations to come.
The Obama Presidential Center stands as far more than a landmark. It is a living testament to courage, service, possibility, and the power of community. It honors the historic accomplishments of President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and their family’s enduring commitment to expanding opportunity, inspiring civic engagement, and empowering young people to believe that they, too, can create meaningful change.
