The first quarterly pilot safety seminar at Whiteman Airport was held on July 27, as pilots, flight instructors, aircraft owners and members of the aviation community filled the room to standing-room-only capacity.

These new regularly scheduled meetings are supported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Los Angeles County Public Works.

LA County Aviation Chief Jason Morgan opened the meeting with the message: “Safety is the foundation of everything we do at Whiteman Airport.”

During the two-hour seminar, Air Traffic Manager Will Hoyt and local pilot and flight instructor Michael R. Williamson shared practical safety reminders, local procedures and tips for flying at Whiteman and in the surrounding airspace.

The quarterly seminar series is part of a larger set of actions announced by the FAA, including:

“The standing-room-only turnout was a huge win and a testament to how much people truly care about safety at Whiteman Airport,” said Penny Alderson, president and owner of Vista Aviation.
