Two allegedly drunken drivers collided early Sunday morning, Dec. 28, in Sylmar. One driver was killed, and the second was arrested, police said.
Blanca Lopez, 58, a resident of Sylmar, was driving a black Toyota car, died from the accident. Police said she had apparently run a red light before hitting another car.
The second driver, a 19-year-old man in a Dodge Challenger, was injured in the crash, according to Los Angeles Police Department spokesman. The man, who was not identified, may have been driving intoxicated.
Lopez was driving south on Foothill Boulevard and the 19-year-old was driving westbound on Polk Street when the collision occurred. Both cars were heavily heavy damaged, and came to rest at the southwest corner of the intersection.
The crash was reported at about 6:40 a.m., police said. Police closed that portion of Foothill Boulevard while they investigated the accident.
Witnesses saw the driver of the Dodge Challenger try to walk away from the scene of the crash. But he was detained by bystanders, police said.
