CASTAIC (CNS) – A 21-year-old Indiana man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and resisting arrest when he tried to hold up a 63-year-old Castaic man recovering from back surgery who nonetheless wrestled him to the ground, authorities said.
About 10:30 Sunday evening, Jan. 4, Salvador Medrano knocked on the door of Jeff Preach’s Sloan Canyon Road residence and said, “I want a hundred million dollars,” Preach told The Santa Clarita Valley Signal.
Preach told the man “You came to the wrong house,” he told the newspaper Medrano hit him in the face and a fist fight ensued, adding that because of recent back surgery he was still using a walker last week and wasn’t supposed to lift anything, Preach told the newspaper.
“All of a sudden my high school linebacker days came back to me,” he told the newspaper and while Preach’s wife dialed 911, he sat his 275-pound body on top of the suspect, then put a shell in his shotgun and trained it on the suspect.
It took about five deputies to subdue Medrano and arrest him, according to Deputy Josh Dubin of the sheriff’s Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
