Michele “Jeannie” Moore, 71, passed away February 20, 2016, peacefully and surrounded by family in West Covina, California.
She was born LeClaire Michele Mailes on August 16, 1944, in Hollywood, California to Eugene and Thelma Mailes. She spent her childhood in Los Angeles County, moving in with her Aunt and Uncle Jim and Joan Johns after the death of her mother at an early age. They and their family became her second family.
Jeannie married Larry Thomas Moore in 1963 where they resided in the San Fernando Valley. They had two daughters, Elisa (Field) and Dawnia (Coffin). During her 40+ years in Sylmar/San Fernando, she enjoyed a fascinating career at Hannah-Barbara in the Ink and Paint Department. She was crafty with sewing and macramé and loved to dance and go camping. Jeannie became involved with AA in 1985 and was a dedicated volunteer with Oasis Women’s Recovery and the San Fernando AA Hall. She was sponsor to many and friend to all.
In 1999, Jeannie moved to Arizona and started a new life close to one of her daughters. She worked for the State of Arizona until retirement in 2010. She enjoyed the desert life while gardening at her home in Kingman and playing with her cat. Jeannie actively volunteered at KRMC Hospice, the local Democratic office, and Angel Manor Women’s Recovery Home, until her illness (Parkinson’s Disease and dementia) stole those joys away.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and with new and lifelong friends, going to the beach and lakes, making Christmases special for her family, taking college courses, taking trips to California to see family and friends, including a special trip to San Francisco to celebrate her 70th birthday. She also had a love for animals
Jeannie is predeceased by her mother and father, and her beloved grandson Jacob. She is survived by her sister Lani Wolfard (Mailes), daughters Elisa Field and Dawnia Coffin, grandchildren Nicolas, Danielle, Tory, and Shea.
She had a generous heart and will be greatly missed.
