Imelda Richarte Munoz, beloved mother and grandmother, left this earth peacefully to be with her husband, Felix, and her siblings on Thursday, May 11, 2023. She lived 93 incredible years, devoted to her family, friends, and the Catholic church. She was born in San Gabriel, CA and passed away at her daughter’s house in Stanwood, WA. She leaves behind two sisters, Carolina and Eva; her 7 children, Jim, Norma, Olivia, Felix Jr, David, Mary Victoria (Vicki), and Mary Veronica (Ronni); and her 45 grandchildren/great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She was raised in Chihuahua, Mexico and moved to California when she was just 13 years old. She learned English while working as a babysitter, then moved up to a factory job with her sisters, before meeting her husband of 46 years, Felix Munoz. Together, they opened a small restaurant, then expanded to a nightclub in Pacoima, and years later, they opened El Acapulco in San Fernando. She ran those restaurants, participated in community events, raised 7 children, and still found time to lovingly care for her grandchildren. She was a hard worker and a fantastic cook, best known for her hot sauce and chile rellenos, but her Cream of Wheat was a favorite of her grandkids. She loved to sew, travel with her sisters, and because she was faithful to her Catholic upbringing, she rarely missed weekly mass (and, she had to pray for each of us). But, most of all, Imelda loved spending time with her family. Each child or grandchild had their own, unique relationship with her. She may have had difficulty remembering the grandchildren’s names at times, but her love for them was evident.
She will forever be in our hearts and greatly missed.
