Anna Eileen (Zuch) Kjar passed away peacefully in her home in San Fernando on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the age of 106.
She had lived in San Fernando for the last 85 years.
She was born on April 25, 1918, in Atlantic Iowa, she was the youngest of 8 children. She moved to California in 1936 to be with her sister. Eileen had 3 children from “the first batch”, Susan Palme, Eva Bailey, and Thomas Sorenson. She married her high school sweetheart Frank Kjar in 1960, and welcomed their daughter, Kathy Kjar the following year. Eileen was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Eileen’s love of her community and country shined through her work and volunteerism. She was a proud riveter in WW2. She was a 3-time President of the Sylmar VFW #6213 Women’s Auxiliary and District President. She led The Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program in the local elementary schools and was even called to Sacramento to continue her work.
Eileen loved to sing. Growing up, her home was filled with music and the family would gather to harmonize. She sang in her church choir and was a long-time member of the San Fernando Valley women’s chorus, the Chansonettes.
Her door was always open. No one was a stranger to Eileen; her warmth and wit, with flair and gumption, made everyone feel they were a part of her family. A legacy of love.
Graveside service is open to all on Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at 10:00am at the San Fernando Mission Catholic Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave, Mission Hills, CA 91345. (Flower deliveries must be received by 9:00am 8/31/2024).
Remember me when the sunlight surrounds you, it is a hug from me.
Remember me when a wink from a stranger brings a smile from me to you,
Remember me when the music plays, I am dancing with you.
Remember me when you sing a tune, I am singing with you.
Remember me when you raise a glass, I am toasting with you.
Remember the laughter and love, and I will always be with you.
