SAN FERNANDO (CNS) – A woman who was pulled from the chimney of a municipal building in San Fernando has specialists from the Los Angeles Fire Department to thank this morning.
Crews responded at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday to 208 N. Park Ave. after getting a report of a person trapped in a chimney atop an outbuilding at the San Fernando Recreation Center, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The woman, thought to be about 30 years old, was found “conscious and alert” about three feet inside a small chimney, Humphrey said.
She was physically stabilized as LAFD specialists trained, equipped and certified in urban search and rescue arrived, he said.
By 8 p.m., the woman, who was not affiliated with the recreation center or involved in official business, was freed from the chimney. She was in fair condition when taken to a hospital, Humphrey said.
The structure was not damaged.
Humphrey said the San Fernando Police Department was handling the investigation.
San Fernando is an incorporated Los Angeles County city that has had a contract with the LAFD for fire, rescue and emergency medical services since 1979.
