City and community leaders celebrated the grand opening of a new apartment complex in Panorama City that provides affordable housing with supportive services for low-income individuals and families, including formerly unhoused individuals.
Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla, who represents the 6th District, said she was looking forward to celebrating the opening of the Vista Terrace housing community, and lauded TSA (Thomas Safran & Associates) for similar successful developments across the region.
“To be able to grow up to be a successful person, you need to make sure you’re living in a community with good housing, dignified housing,” said Padilla during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and official grand opening for the new property. “I see the green space, the very nice windows, the community room, the ability of people to personalize their outdoor personal space. I’m excited to be here because this is a prime example of what affordable housing should be.”
Located on Van Nuys Boulevard two blocks from Roscoe Boulevard in the heart of Panorama City, the four-story property is a development of TSA. Financed with low-income housing tax credits and public and private sources, the building is not age restricted, and has 25 units set aside for specifically people who were previously unhoused.
The Vista Terrace property has 102 studio, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units that all feature heating, air conditioning and fully-equipped kitchens. The apartment complex has a library, community room, fitness center, laundry facility, landscaped common outdoor areas, 55 parking spaces and 76 spaces for bikes.
The housing community also offers on-site management and social services, to help ensure the long-term success of residents, said Jordan Pynes, president of TSA.
Vista Terrace resident Kathleen Anderson, an educator, entrepreneur and a single mother of five children, previously lived in an apartment in disrepair that felt unsafe for her and her family.
“Since moving here, we have more space, more peace and a greater sense of comfort and stability. [Living here] has given me the opportunity to focus more on my entrepreneurial goals,” described Anderson, adding that she has also “built meaningful connections” in the community.
“Living here truly means a lot to me,” she added. “This is a beautiful community with amenities that not all affordable housing offers. Most importantly, it feels like home, and I am proud to live here.”
