Each year, state senators and assemblymembers select nonprofits who have made outstanding contributions to the communities they serve and honor them as a California Nonprofit of the Year. This year, one of those organizations was the Chatsworth Park Elementary PTA.
Selected by Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo, the nonprofit is committed to enriching the educational experience of every student while fostering a connected school community. Through volunteering, fundraising, advocacy and meaningful partnerships, the nonprofit supports programs, campus improvements, family engagement and student enrichment opportunities.
“Receiving this recognition from Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo on behalf of the Chatsworth Park Elementary PTA is truly an honor,” said PTA President Casandra Walker. “I am incredibly grateful to be part of such a caring, resilient and dedicated community. While this past year has brought significant challenges as we’ve navigated an ongoing environmental health and safety issue, it has also revealed the incredible strength of our families, teachers, staff and volunteers.”
The nonprofit has also received several other awards from the 31st District Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) for their performance during the 2025-26 school year. For instance, they were named the 2025-2026 Unit of the Year, which recognizes the top-performing PTA among more than 110 active units in the 31st District.
Walker was also given the Linda Ross Emerging Leader Award for her dedication to “servant leadership” and her commitment to strengthening public education and community partnerships.
