A 29-year-old mother and her boyfriend were fatally struck in North Hollywood Sunday, Feb. 26, when a motorist ran a red light. The two-vehicle crash sent two other people to hospitals, including the woman’s 18-month-old infant.
Jennifer Rose Griego, her boyfriend Esteban and her daughter Indi were struck at the Magnolia Boulevard off-ramp by a driver who ran a red light. Both Griego and Esteban were taken to a hospital, but later died due to their injuries. Indi survived the crash with only minor injuries and is recovering in the hospital.
The driver who ran the red light remained at the scene and was issued a citation. The driver’s identity was not disclosed.
“Ill will toward the driver that ran the red is overshadowed by the love we have for our daughter that perished in this crash,” wrote Fred Griego, Jennifer’s father, on the San Fernando Valley Sun/el Sol Facebook page. “She graduated from Kennedy High [School] years ago and worked at the Dugout in Simi Valley. … We want to praise LAFD and Providence Hospital personnel for the genuine concern and compassion.
“We are devastated as one could expect.”
Fred also thanked a bystander that removed Indi from the wreckage and said his family would like to personally thank that person.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help pay for Griego’s funeral expenses and give financial support to her family.
“To say Jennifer and Esteban will be deeply missed is an understatement,” organizer Raychel Jacobs wrote on the page. “Jennifer lived every day with so much purpose and love. Undeniably, her smile could light up any room.”
Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call LAPD’s Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
