Several dozen women from across the San Fernando Valley explored education, wellness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy during the first-ever Women’s Empowerment Symposium presented by the Living for Purpose Community Development Center.
Held at the Mission City Church in the City of San Fernando, the free community event featured four speaker presentations, a panel discussion, local vendors and resource organizations. In addition, California State Sen. Caroline Menjivar was in attendance to recognize Living for Purpose and their partners for their community contributions.
The Aug. 15 symposium was designed to give women encouragement, connections, resources and practical tools to help them discover and embrace their purpose and “leave inspired to make a positive impact in their families, workplaces and communities.” The event was part of the organization’s broader mission to help empower women, strengthen families and support underserved communities across Los Angeles County, with a focus on the San Fernando Valley.
“This event was about creating a space where women could come as they are, connect with one another, gain practical information and leave knowing that they are not alone,” said Linda Hodge, co-founder of Living for Purpose. “We believe that when we pour into women and families, we strengthen the entire community. The Women’s Empowerment Symposium is just one part of the work we’re doing, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.”
Based in Palmdale, Living for Purpose provides education, mentorship, wellness and community empowerment programs in the greater LA County area and the Antelope Valley, including the Radiant Mom Academy, to support mothers starting at their pregnancy. They also provide a Tent City Outreach program, which offers meals, clothing and hygiene items to unhoused individuals; and have additional services for youth, women and families. To date, Living for Purpose has served over 4,000 individuals.
