Since 2019, the splash pad at the Panorama Recreation Center has been closed due to issues with its infrastructure system. But it has been recently reopened just in time for the summer heat.

On Friday, July 10, Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla joined community members for a ribbon-cutting ceremony as parents and kids could once again take a break from the hot sun in the splash pad area.

In a press release, Padilla said that Sandra Soto, the Panorama City neighborhood watch captain, and the Panorama City Neighborhood Council brought the issue of the closed facility to her attention. After learning it had been shut down for so many years, she said she made it one of her top priorities to get it up and running again.

“Whether it’s restoring a neighborhood amenity, addressing public safety concerns or investing in overdue improvements, my commitment is simple: when our community speaks, we respond,” Padilla said in a statement. “This is what a responsive government looks like – listening, acting and delivering.”

As noted in the release, though, the park will close after the summer as it will undergo a major renovation to replace and improve antiquated facilities and equipment.

The recreation center is located at 8600 Hazeltine Ave. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
